Born on 3 February 1912 at Brussels. Flew with the Aéronautique Militaire Belge at the Aviation School when War broke out. Evacuated from Belgium with his unit and was at Oujda, Morocco when France capitulated. Under command of Captain Cajot, a part of the school evaded again and arrived in GB on 5 August 1940. He enroled in the RAFVR as P/O on 13 August 1940 and was sent on training, the SFTS (08/10/1940) and OTU (19/02/1941). Posted to 605 Sqn, 24 April 1941.  Send to 350 Sqn to lead B-flight on 20  November 1941. On 8 January 1942 F/Lt J.A.M.J.G. Carlier, CO B- Flight on Spitfire IIa P8702, leading the left section of a 12 aircraft formation led by S/Ldr Thompson, was injured, in an accident when a Lysander Aircraft (V9604) flew into the Formation. F/Lt. Carlier's aircraft was damaged and he force landed. Badly injured he was removed to the C and A Infirmary Bangor where he was placed on the dangerously ill list. He would stay for many months at the hospital, ending his carreer as fighter pilot.   Had following postings after recovery: Flight Sheaby (19/06/1942), 171 Sqn (09/10/1942), 59 OTU (16/10/1942), 165 Sqn (12/11/1942), 24 Sqn (26/02/1943). Designated to join the Belgian Inspectorate General with the rank of Acting Squadron Leader on 14 June 1944 where he stayed for the rest of the War. Died on 08/01/1967.

Has a recommendation for an Air Force Cross which would normally have been gazetted 7 September 1945. Drafted when he had flown 1,915 hours, 1,026 on current duties, 328 in previous six months:

"This officer is a pilot who has been employed in the Communication Squadron on   special flights, including the carriage of passengers and freights to Iceland, India and  the Middle East. He has also been employed on the evacuation of casualties from   North  West Europe and on the conveyance of very important personages on   continental tours. He is also Belgian Liaison officer to the Command Headquarters."
