Born at Little Bolton, Lancashire, 28 July 1919. (Mangnall - Mother's maiden surname)Commissioned from the ranks (754671) as a P/O on probation wef 27 July 40. Confirmed as a P/O and promoted F/O (war substantive) wef 27 July 41. Promoted F/Lt (war substantive) wef 27 July 42. Authorised to wear the Belgian Croix de Guerre 1940 with Palm wef 24 January 47. David received the "Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service in The Air" in 1960. Moved to the Ground branch. Gained an OBE, 6th June 1969. Retired as Wing Commander on 28th July 1974. After his retirement, he moved with his wife Elsie to Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia,  joining there their only son, Peter. David died on 21st February 2016 and was buried at the Polson Cemetery, Point Vernon.
