Born 18 September 1916 at Cardross, Scotland. Was student at the Belgian Royal Military School before War. Left with his unit to France when the Germans invaded the country. Evaded to the UK where he arrived on 26 June 1940. Send to RAF Depot - Gloucester on 1 July 1940 and to RAF Depot - St.Athan on 14 August 1940. Started flying with EFTS - Odiham on 2 October 1940. Enlisted into Belgian Section of RAF on 8 November 1940. Further training saw him attending SFTS - Ternhill, 15 May 1941 and after being commisioned P/O on 6 August 1941, at OTU - Heston on 24 August 1941. He was posted to 123 Sqn (4 October 1941) and 54 Sqn (30 Marsch 1942) before he arrived at 350 Sqn on 29 May 1942. Marchal was shot down 19 August 1942 and crash landed near St.Aubin airfield in Dieppe area, after a combat with Oberfeldwebel WurmheIler of I./JG2 and was send as POW at Stalag Luft III.
