He was born at Athus on January
15th, 1915. Initialy member of the Chasseurs Ardennais, he is
accepted as pupil observator in th Aé Mil in 1939. He escaped
to Great Britain via Port Vendes (France) where he arrived on
7 July 1940. Sent to the Training Command, he starts his
training at 13 EFTS (Peterborough) Here he flies on DH82A and
performed his first solo on Tiger Moth, 28 April 1941. With the
mention "Above Average", he joins 17 EFTS in June 1941 followed
by 11 SFTS where he flies on Airspeed Oxford and Miles Magister.
First solo on Hurricane 24 August 1941 at 9 SFTS on 21 October
1941 he joined 57 OTU. On 2 November 1941 he flew his first
solo on Spitfire (XO-T). Posted to 350 Sqn on 16 December 1941.
First operational mission on 25 April 1942 (Spitfire Mk V
EN835), convoy patrol. Taking off at Debden for a
Rodeo on June 4th, 1942, he do not returned to base and is
declared MIA. In his logbook F/Lt Dumonceau de Bergendal,
commanding B-Flight put this note: "Pilot missing on Rodeo on
June 4th. Last seen diving away from formation in a steep dive.
Cause unknown as no E/A in immediate vicinity."
