Born on 15 March 1918, St Marylebone, Londen.
he was the only son of Sir Maurice Waller, C. B. and was educated at Rugby and University College, Oxford.
 
After being appointed to the Unattached List for the Indian Army on the 26th July 1939 from the General List, Territorial Army as a Second Lieutenant with senority from 27th January 1938, he was attached to the 2nd battalion the Green Howards in India, an attachment that was usually to last for one year. With the coming of the war he was admitted to the Indian Army early, on the 30th January 1940 and posted to his Indian Army unit, The Guides Cavalry (10th Q. V. O. Frontier Force). He was promoted Lieutenant on the 27th April 1940. Before his appointment to the R.A.F. he had been employed as an acting Captain at a cadet college in India.

 Richard Heron Waller Lt Indian Army (49982) to be (temporarly) P/O on being employed with the RAF wef 29 Jun 42. To be F/O (wsr) wef 29 Dec 42. To be F/Lt wef 29 Jun 44. Posted to 350 Sqn on 6 May 1945. Indian Army: Lt R.H. Waller (998 A.I.) resigns his commission wef 10 Apr 46. Died in September 2005.
